Summer Reads for 2020

My niece Jerrell Everett has a beautiful new blog that focuses on faith, motherhood, and writing. Along with being an excellent writer, she is a voracious reader. I have a stack of 20 books that I’m trying to get through. In the last couple of years, this married mother of three (all under the age of 5) has read 38 books!

Jerrell believes that it’s essential for all of us to expose ourselves to, and educate ourselves about all races and cultures, which fits in line with our philosophy as well. In one of her posts, Jerrell shares her favorite recent reads by women of color. These compelling stories range from biography to fiction and humor. I invite you to dive in and check out Jerrell’s top 10 diverse reads from the last two years (in alphabetical order because she says, “I couldn’t bring herself to rank them.”)
If you’d like to recommend a book for Maxwell’s Bookshelf, send a short description of the book to robin@maxwellsplaybook.com. We’ll review it and if we use it, you’ll get a mention in this space!
