A prize fighter doesn’t just go in the ring. The champion fighter prepares for her opponent so that she is always ready.
As I write this, nearly 100,000 Americans have lost their lives in just three months because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The UN Secretary-General says that “From health to the economy, security to social protection, the impacts of COVID-19 are exacerbated for women and girls simply because of their sex.” Similarly, CDC research shows that there is a disproportionate burden of illness and death among racial and ethnic minority groups. In many cases, patients have underlying conditions that make it harder to recover from this disease.
When I heard this, I called my dear friend, Dr. Josefina Monasterio, to talk about the effects of Covid-19 on our communities. Dr. Josefina as a 74-year-old champion bodybuilder, author, and TV host. As a life and success coach, she is a passionate advocate for a healthy lifestyle that begins with unifying the body, mind, and spirit.
I asked Dr. Josefina about sending a message that would motivate everyone – especially those who are most vulnerable – to become more proactive in caring for their health. The first thing that she said was, “We need to be prepared.” See my conversation with Dr. Josefina below.
We know that life will ALWAYS throw you curves. We cannot control the decisions that others may make or will or will not do. However, we CAN PREPARE ourselves as individuals and families, so that when we face adversity, we’re ready.
